se of affluent communities, police said, hate groups or white separatists such as the National Alliance have no foothold in Nassau or Suffolk counties. Residents won't tolerate such violence-prone groups interfering with their quality of life, police said.
"It's not really a good place where they will have people drawn to them, but that doesn't mean we are immune," said Det. Sgt. Gary Shapiro, coordinator of Nassau's Bias Crime Unit.
That was evident Friday and Saturday when red swastikas and other graffiti were spray-painted at a synagogue in Plan- dome, and at two schools, a home and on a street sign in neighboring North Shore communities.
Two males, 20 and 17, were arrested Sunday and charged with aggravated harassment and criminal mischief. They have pleaded not guilty and are free on bail.
On Tuesday night, it happened again.
